It is in our best interest to invest in stem cell research because it could one day yield cures that could save us billions of dollars in long term health costs. Estimations show that with the adoption of regenerative medicine treatments, the USA could save over 250 million dollars a year. In 2004, Californians had voted to invest 3 billion dollars in stem cell research at universities and private institutions.
Over 50 companies in 2007 had given the option of products and services that were based off of regenerative medicine. This allowed new jobs to open and more than 3,000 people were employed. Businesses in the stem cell field have expanded over the years with a good portion conducting clinical trials on products that will be available in the future.
Many people working in the medical community are interested in the development of stem cell based therapies. People who support it believe that lives of people as well as the economy can be saved.
